Graphic of students that says boundary permit open enrollment Begins Nov. 15

Davis School District announces changes to its boundary permit process, outlining new policies for students seeking to attend schools outside of their designated boundaries for the upcoming 2025-2026 academic year.

Early Enrollment Begins November 15

The early enrollment window for boundary permits opens on November 15 and will run through the first Friday in February. During this time, parents can apply online through their myDSD account. After the early enrollment window closes, a random lottery will determine which students receive permits, with unselected applications remaining on a waitlist until the semester break.

Families will be notified of permit decisions during the first week of March. If approved, the student’s designated school for the following year will automatically update. Parents who wish to decline an approved permit can email Laura Trevino at ltrevino@dsdmail.net to keep their child at their current boundary school.

Late Enrollment Opens March 1

For those who miss the early window, a late enrollment period will open from March 1 through the end of the first semester of the next school year. Late permits are only available for schools that have not reached capacity. Once a school is classified as "CLOSED," no further permits will be issued, and no waiting lists or appeals will be considered.

Special Considerations for Language Programs and Current Students

Families with students currently attending schools on variances do not need to reapply as long as the student is continuing at the same school. Permits will automatically carry over until the student advances to a new school level (i.e., elementary to junior high, junior high to high school).

Students in Language Immersion or International Baccalaureate (IB) programs should not apply for boundary permits. Placement for Language Immersion is managed by the district’s Teaching and Learning Department, while IB students should directly apply through Clearfield High School at 801-402-8200.

New Ninth-Grade Policy Allows Early High School Participation

As part of recent policy updates, eighth-grade students can now apply for a 9-12 boundary permit, allowing them to participate in extracurricular activities at their future high school.

How to Apply for Boundary Permits

  • Current Davis School District families can apply by logging into their myDSD account, selecting “Tools,” and navigating to “Apply for Open Enrollment Permit.”

  • Out-of-district or new students should call the Student & Family Resources office at 801-402-5159 for assistance.

  • Kindergarten permits must be requested directly at the school.

This streamlined process aims to ensure families have ample opportunities to select the best educational fit for their students while balancing district capacity needs. For more details, visit davis.k12.ut.us or contact the Student & Family Resources office.
