67 cast and crew members, three rehearsals per week, two hours per rehearsal and an unmeasurable amount of effort resulted in a masterful performance of Elf Jr. at Centerville Elementary school.
The cast ranged from students in third to sixth grade. Many of the actors and actresses took on multiple roles. All to help tell the story of a loveable elf named Buddy.
“I love the story,” Director Hannah Gibson said. “I think it teaches really important messages about accepting people even when they're different from you, inclusion and finding joy in the small things.”
Gibson’s sister started the Christmas play at the school over 20 years ago. When Hannah joined the school as a teacher’s assistant, she was thrilled to carry on the tradition.
The sixth-grade students will graduate from the elementary level and move onto their next phase of life, and that means openings for the next crop of thespians. The headliners encourage their peers to ignore any fear and try out for next year’s winter play.
“You don’t have to be nervous, you get to know a lot of people, and once you get to read through the script and singing the songs, you just come familiar with it and it’s really fun,” sixth grader Logan said.
