Lights, Camera, CREATE! The Davis School District is shining a spotlight on creativity thanks to a fantastic partnership between DSD Community Schools and Beverley Taylor Sorenson (BTS) Arts. For one week, 14 After School Programs were lucky enough to have an artist in residence. Students learned the power of self-expression through theater with Elise Hansen and rocked out with music lessons from Katherine Fowles. But the fun doesn't stop there. Two separate weeks of drama camps were also funded by this amazing partnership, giving students a FREE chance to explore their dramatic side. This collaboration is all about making sure ALL students have access to the arts, regardless of background. By combining resources, we're helping kids develop their confidence, creativity and teamwork skills in a fun and engaging way. Thank you to Community Schools and BTS Arts for making this possible. We can't wait to see what future artistic adventures await our students.

🌟 A Heartwarming Tale of Dedication and Honor 🇺🇸 Four former Woods Cross Elementary Wolverines, now part of Girl Scout Troop 280, paid tribute to our nation's heroes by laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery, Virginia. Under the guidance of their leaders and with the support of their community, these determined young women sold over 24,000 boxes of cookies over two years to fund their 8-day trip to Washington DC. Let's salute their dedication and spirit of service.

Exciting news! Layton High's groundbreaking ceremony paves an exciting path forward with plans for an extensive renovation. A new little theatre, scene shop, science labs, classroom wing, expanded commons, band, choral, art and ceramics rooms promise a transformed learning environment. 🏫🚀 Stay tuned for progress updates. The Davis School District appreciates the support of Davis County voters for approving its 2022 "Building Generations" bond proposal. Without that support, projects such as this could not occur.

The dog days of summer are here, literally. The Utah Highway Patrol took advantage of the empty halls of Farmington Jr. High to train their newest class of K9 troopers. The real-life paw patrol of Bo, Louie, Jax, Goose, and Rocky spent multiple days learning what it takes to be a UHP hero. These pups used school lockers, classrooms, and old clothing to test their skills.. Four of them will specialize in finding narcotics in St. George, Vernal, Nephi, and Summit County, while one will be stationed at the Utah State Capitol to sniff out explosive devices. Their training also includes parks and vehicles to ensure they're ready for anything, anytime. Becoming a UHP K9 is no walk in the park. These dogs train five days a week, ten-hour days, for ten weeks, all in the hopes of becoming invaluable assets in protecting the state of Utah. By June’s end, the five dogs hope to be sworn officers of the law.

Davis High School's final concert for the year was an absolute blast, and it's all thanks to the incredible reunion that happened on stage. Former Davis High School orchestra director, Richard Marsden, took the conductor's podium once again for a special performance of "The Stars & Stripes Forever." It was a magical blend of past and present, with former students joining to create a truly unforgettable experience. If you were part of Mr. Marsden's orchestra family, you'll understand the joy and nostalgia felt as past students played together once more.

Over 75 students, parents and teachers from Kaysville Junior High School community partnered with the non-profit Sleep in Heavenly Peace to build 10 beds for Davis County kids in need. Volunteers sanded, drill-pressed, assembled, stained and even branded these 10 beds in record time: 90 minutes! This activity was part of a service-based learning initiative in Mr. Clancy's technology and engineering shop classes. We would like to thank the Davis Education Foundation for their generous $2,500 Innovative School Grant which paid for the hardware, lumber and bedding necessary to execute this project.
