Some moments in history are bigger than our own memories. At Antelope Elementary, students gathered on September 11 to remember, honor and reflect on those who served others on one of our nation’s most tragic days.
Students joined together at the flagpole for the national anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and a performance of “Those Who Serve.” Local police officers joined the school community as firefighters, police officers and members of the military were recognized for their service and sacrifice.
“Although most of us were not here that day, and our students were not yet born, it is important that we remember the courage, kindness and unity that followed,” said Principal Jennifer Pool.
The morning ended with a simple expression of gratitude. As students returned inside, they lined up to give the officers high fives and fist bumps—a small gesture that carried a meaningful message: we remember, we honor and we are grateful for those who serve.
