Interesting in Subbing?

Can I apply to substitute teach?  The application is not currently available on the website as our substitute teacher hiring process has changed.  We now require an administrator's request/referral for individuals to substitute teach.  This does need to be a current administrator and can come from any member of the building's administration.  Our principals know the process and refer individuals they know and would like to substitute at their school.  Although you certainly can reach out to one of our school administrators, the process was intended to have administrators reach out to us with individuals they know, or their teachers know so we don’t put them in an uncomfortable position as they are giving their recommendation when they initiate those requests.

Does everyone need a referral?  Former or retired Davis School District teachers do not need a referral.  If you were a teacher with us, you are welcome to contact the SubSystems Office at 801-402-5679 to receive instructions on beginning the substitute teacher hiring process.

What is the process if a principal or other member of the administration at a school has referred me?  After an administrator initiates a request for an individual to be hired as a substitute teacher, the SubSystems Office will then send the individual an email with instructions about how to proceed from there, including information about the need to enroll in a Canvas course to view the Substitute Teacher online training.  This is a required part of the hiring process for all applicants.  After receiving a course completion certificate, the individual will then be given instructions on applying for the position.

What if I just separated from the district?  Do I still need to apply as a substitute?  The answer is yes.  When an employee separates from the district, all records, including any prior substitute records are automatically inactivated.  Therefore, unless you are a former DSD teacher, you will need to go through the substitute teacher hiring process, which includes the referral.

Am I eligible to substitute teach?  In order to be eligible to substitute teach for our District, you need to be a high school graduate and at least 20 years of age.

How much will I be paid?  The 2023-24 Substitute Teacher Salary Schedule. Substitutes are paid based on their qualification. You need to have a bachelor's degree in order to be set up at the degreed rate of pay and a current teaching license in order to be set up at the certified rate.

What if I am interested in becoming a classified substitute?  Please reach out to Diane Skeen at 801-402-5725 for application instructions.  Classified substitutes can cover for the office, the playground, library on the elementary level, TA's, Prep-Time Specialists and SPED TA's.
