Students showing off their new backpacks

Foxboro Elementary School is proud to announce its continued participation in the Watch D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program, a nationally recognized initiative that brings male role models into schools to foster a positive learning environment and enhance campus safety. This program is part of a broader effort to engage fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles and other father figures in the educational lives of their students.

The Watch D.O.G.S. program is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement organizations. Developed over more than two decades by educators, experts, and dedicated volunteers, Watch D.O.G.S. has become a vital component in many schools across the country, including Foxboro Elementary.

The program’s mission is twofold: to provide positive male role models for students and to enhance school security. By having these volunteers present on campus, the program demonstrates to students the importance of education while also contributing to a safer, more focused learning environment. The presence of Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers help reduce bullying, provides additional supervision, and allows teachers and students to concentrate on learning and instruction.

At Foxboro Elementary, Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers are encouraged to participate in various activities throughout the school day. This includes assisting in PE classes, supervising lunch and recess periods, and supporting students in their classrooms. The involvement of these male role models has been shown to inspire children and create a more supportive and secure atmosphere at school.

Foxboro Elementary is inviting all fathers and father figures in the community to volunteer through the Watch D.O.G.S. program. Whether it’s for one day or several throughout the year, their participation is highly valued and can make a significant difference in the lives of students.

Principal Shelly Truelson encourages involvement, emphasizing that their presence not only boosts student morale but also contributes to a safer and more engaged school community.

“We hope that every father and father figure will take the opportunity to participate in this impactful program,” said Principal Truelson. “Your involvement can truly make a difference.”
