Department of Public Safety Visits Students at Crestview Elementary. In 2023, Governor Spencer Cox issued Executive Order 2023-08, encouraging each state agency to organize a department-wide service project and granting employees two hours of administrative leave to participate. Commissioner Jess L. Anderson sent eight members of the Utah Department of Public Safety to Crestview Elementary for a day of fun and education. Employees from Human Resources, the Driver License Division, and the Bureau of Criminal Identification were among those who traveled to Layton to interact with the students. This unique opportunity allowed them to step away from their desks and enjoy a more relaxed environment. “We want to show our appreciation for Utah’s schools, teachers, staff, and the incredible work they do for our community and our kids,” said Regional Security Sergeant Tabatha Zamora. Zamora shared kickball techniques with the students while answering questions about her tool belt, the patches on her uniform, and, of course, handcuffs. “The kids enjoy seeing us out here,” Sergeant Zamora said. “They love meeting new people and interacting with different adults, and from my experience as a police officer, I know kids like police officers.” The volunteers spent much of the day helping students with homework and art projects and organizing the library—small tasks that made a big difference in the eyes of the students.

From Native American, to Portugal, Japan, France and Italy, precious stones play a critical role in cultural identity. Bountiful Junior High art club and multi-cultural club students collaborated to celebrate art and culture. They painted masks, learned how to wire-wrap and worked with beads to express their identity.

Kindergarten students at Adams Elementary had the wonderful opportunity to welcome local author Jonathan Aubrey. Aubrey, who has Cerebral Palsy, shared his book "Am I Different," encouraging our little ones to embrace their unique qualities. The kids were captivated as Jonathan read and shared his personal story, reminding them that it’s perfectly okay to be different. He even surprised everyone by showing them that he can ride a bike. Thanks to Jacque Price, each student received their own copy of Jonathan's book. Price passionately believes in giving back to the community and supporting important messages like Aubrey’s.
